Rao Counseling PLLC

A warm, thoughtful space for teens and adults seeking clarity, healing, and support in Missouri City and across Texas.

About Me

Charlie Rao, LPC

Hi, I’m Charlie Rao, a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of Rao Counseling PLLC. I offer a warm, thoughtful space for teens and adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, burned out, or in transition.

My approach is collaborative and culturally aware, grounded in both reflection and practical support. I often work with anxiety, depression, caregiver stress, life transitions, and the emotional weight of cultural or personal expectations.

My work is shaped by a holistic perspective, informed by clinical training, lived understanding, and a background in the biological sciences. This allows me to consider the emotional, psychological, and physiological aspects of well-being together. I also value psychoeducation as part of the process, helping clients better understand what’s happening in their mind and body so they can feel more informed, empowered, and grounded in their care.

My background includes behavioral health, hospital-based work in acute stabilization settings, teaching, community outreach, and caregiving—experiences that continue to shape how I show up in the therapy room: with care, curiosity, and respect.

I see part of my role as being an advocate for my clients and can help navigate next steps when needed, including connecting to higher levels of care—such as more structured support or hospitalization—and collaborating with trusted psychiatrists for additional support.

If you’re reading this and something in your life feels uncertain or undone, take a breath. This too is part of the unfolding — not a sign that you’ve failed, but that you’re alive, and life is still teaching you how to flow.

Reflections

Gentle thoughts and reflections on therapy, caregiving, and being human.

Anitya: The Gentle Practice of Letting Change Be

November 2025

Change has a way of quietly reshaping our lives long before we’re ready to name it... Anitya reminds us that everything is moving, shifting, softening, evolving.

Everything is temporary. Sadness is temporary. Happiness is temporary. Laughter is temporary. Over time, I’ve learned that we can either have our mind control us — or we can learn to guide it. After years, even decades, of living inside cycles of worry and rumination, I began to find my way back through practice. Meditation helped, yes, but so did the simple, steady rhythm of mindful mantras — gentle repetitions that became like light through the dark. If you’re reading this and something in your life feels uncertain or undone, take a breath. This too is part of the unfolding — not a sign that you’ve failed, but that you’re alive, and life is still teaching you how to flow.

The Quiet Weight of Caregiving

January 2026

Caregiving often grows from deep family bonds. Sometimes the most supportive step is simply creating space to acknowledge the full experience — devotion alongside fatigue, purpose alongside grief.

In my own experience, caregiving was both deeply challenging and deeply meaningful. There were moments when I felt stretched to my limits, unsure how much more I could hold. And yet, on the other side of that experience, I recognize how much it expanded my capacity for understanding, presence, and connection. Both truths existed at once. What is most supportive for caregivers is not rejecting cultural values or family roles but creating space to hold the full experience — devotion alongside fatigue and purpose alongside grief. Therapy can offer caregivers a place to be seen as whole people, not just responsibilities. When empathy is extended inward as well as outward, caregiving becomes more sustainable, and its meaning can remain intact.
